Movie critics are a dime a dozen

So what makes one movie critic better than the other, You do! Movie critics aren’t supposed to tell you whether you will like the movie or not. How are they supposed to know your tastes? Nobody can do that. The best thing they can do is tell you what they thought. Of course this by no means will tell you if you’re going to like the movie they like. You have to see it for yourself and then make your own judgment.

Then what is the point of a movie critic? The point of a movie critic is the jump start to researching a movie you want to watch. Movies are expensive, so you can’t afford to watch every movie that comes out. The movie critic is there to help you make a decision if you’re trying to decide between movies. They’re not supposed to tell you which movie to watch.

Movie critics are a lot like hair stylists or barbers or even a bartender. There are hundreds of them, so who do you trust, who is right and who is wrong. The answer is, do some research, see what movies they like, what kind of genre do they prefer. Then see which one or which ones match your taste the best. The truth is, there are a lot of good movies out there, but just because I do not like a movie it does not mean that it is a bad movie. It’s all a matter of opinion. So find a critic that you like and stick with them. You aren’t always going to agree, but that’s okay, everyone is different. And sometimes we like a movie one day, then hate it the next time we see it and vice versa.

A great place to start is RottenTomatoes.com. This site is filled with movie critics, some good, some not so good. Stick with critics with you can connect. Avoid critics who only judge a movie solely on whether they liked it or not. While this is important, there are other factors when judging a movie. Remember, you can like a movie one day then hate it the next. It depends on the mood. Check out the critics’ history. Personally, I like to stay away from critics that use words like “Dynamite” or “Explosive” those words don’t mean anything to me. Watch out for critics that tell you the whole plot of the movie. There are a lot of them out there. You want to know if you should watch it, not have them to tell you the movie plot so that you don’t have to go see it. Another important factor, avoid critics whom are constantly criticizing movies. Most of the time the movie was made for a reason, there are very little movies out there without an audience. So just because the critic wasn’t part of that audience doesn’t make it worth criticizing. To me the movie would have to be totally useless for me to do that and that is rare.
